About Us

At Seed Stewards RI, we turn school gardens into living classrooms where kids get their hands dirty while building critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
We work with K–8 students in neighborhood schools in the Providence metro area where teachers are stretched thin. Their students already face many challenges: poverty, marginalization, poor academic performance, and limited access to healthy food and green space. Our garden educators are onsite at partner schools throughout the year. We work alongside teachers to bring existing curricula outdoors and deliver lessons rooted in science, culture, and community.
In the garden, students deepen theoretical learning through observation and inquiry. They try new foods and discover how good it feels to be outside. At each school, we partner with families, farms, and local food and environmental organizations to develop student-leaders who are proud of the neighborhoods they come from. Through this work, Seed Stewards RI is helping to grow the just and connected food system all kids deserve.
